Can We See Your Knees Shaking?

Oct 14, 2025

I was recently asked what the single biggest reason is to join our Out Of The Blue Corner Membership Community. After a little thought, my answer was this:

“Because in our community you don’t have to worry about us seeing your knees shaking.”

Ok, so a little explanation is needed!

The reference comes from the 1973 title fight between George Foreman and Joe Frazier, who was the defending heavyweight champion of the world. Foreman, who later became known for his Lean, Mean, Fat Reducing Grilling Machine, was a towering, intimidating man, who had bludgeoned his way to a title shot with a string of brutal knock outs. He would fix his opponents with a menacing stare prior to the first bell, and most opponents would drop their eyes, mentally beaten before a punch was thrown.

With Frazier it was different. ‘Smokin’ Joe’ was a fearsome fighter himself, and at that time was the only man to have beaten Muhammad Ali. Foreman put his stare on Joe but he later revealed that he didn’t want him to drop his eyes. Why?

Because he was so afraid of Frazier that his knees were shaking.

In the ring a fighter can’t show vulnerability; they can’t show their nerves, doubts or fears, as doing so would give their opponent an edge. A great fighter can be a master of disguise when wearing their fight face.

And that’s what so many of us do when we struggle. We put on our mask and we pretend, and when asked how we are, we say ‘I’m fine’. It’s utterly exhausting, and trying to maintain the facade without admitting how we are really feeling, without showing the struggle, without seeking support, can take us to our breaking point.

In our community you don’t have to worry about us seeing your knees shaking, and you don’t need to be concerned about what we might think of you. We’ve been there, and we understand the courage it takes to actively seek support and fight back against depression. You don’t have to worry about any consequences of showing vulnerability, because we know the strength it takes to do that.

That night in 1973, Foreman overcame his fears, and Frazier, in the most devastating fashion, knocking him down 6 times on the way to a crushing 2nd round victory. Over 20 years later, Foreman overcame the odds, father time, and boxing logic to become the oldest heavyweight champion of the world at 45 years of age.

No matter how tough the opponent of depression feels, it is not undefeated. Just as Foreman knocked out Frazier, you CAN knock out depression. In the Out Of The Blue Corner Membership Community, you will be seen, heard, valued and supported. With us, you don’t fight alone.
